Having spent 17 years in Tortola running Brandywine Bay Restaurant, Capriccio di Mare and managing, advising and being active in other restaurants, Cele and Davide Pugliese have decided to make the BVI their home. In searching for the perfect place to build their island dream, they met the owners of Scrub Island and so became enamored with their island. What fascinated Cele & Davide was the wild and unspoiled beauty of Scrub Island, still a deserted outpost that had just been bought by three patners from Pennsylvania.

The possibility for the island to become a very exclusive development was visualized with the highest standards, bar none, of any similar sized project in the BVI. Involvement in its infancy stage would guarantee solitude and unspoiled beauty for a few years to come. Also attractive was the tremendous potential, as the first landowner on Scrub Island, to pursue the opportunity to offer an exclusive and secluded retreat for discerning friends, while there is no other one on Scrub Island.

The vision to construct an architecturally and environmentally appealing home to capture the allure of the Caribbean was the drive in their decision to buy Lot 54 in the residential estate of Scrub Island.

 

Wali Nikiti is the essence of their philosophy about living.

Cele and Davide have worked together in the BVI at many levels in the hospitality industry; catering to tourists on board Sailing Vessels “Misty Law” and “Trespasser” and then creating Brandywine Bay Restaurant that is known as one of the finest restaurants in the BVI and the Caribbean. They have learned the art of entertaining, and plan to transpose those skills to entertain at

 Wali Nikiti on Scrub Island.

Wali Nikiti is a quiet, private and secure refuge, with only 6 very private Greenheart wood cottages scattered on over 2 acres of land covered in Broom Palms (Coccothrinax Barbadensis). All five cottages have king sized beds with posts and mosquito netting. Also in the cottages mini bar refrigerators and coffee makers are available. Hammocks are set on the deck in front of the cottage. Outdoor showers will be located using the natural boulders and vegetation to afford privacy.

The main house, situated high on the property, is a concrete and hardwood structure, with hardwood tree trunks as featured columns in the front of the house. All the beams and roof structure is in hardwood from Guyana and synthetic thatch roof from Endureed of Florida. The view from anywhere within the house (as it is open for 180^o) sweeps from Trellis Bay and Marina Cay to the North part of the Atlantic Ocean just about to Anegada.

The house, with pigment colored concrete floors, is designed in different levels to form an organic and appealing view within the house; each level delineating the areas of the house.

As you enter the main door which is made from Indonesian hardwood panels of teak and mahogany 5’x 8’ and pivoting on a fulcrum, you progress to the kitchen area, the most spectacular and functional feature of the house, and it is here that an ambiance is realized where gourmand food and the Italian tradition prevail. The kitchen features a center island with a professional stove where the guests can congregate and participate or just enjoy watching the preparation of the meals. On the back wall, where there’s a very long counter with a 5’ long marble sink from Tuscany, is featured a wood burning oven and a country fire place for creating wood grilled dishes. As you move to the opposite side of the entrance, outside the roofline is a daytime eating area, just across from the 20’ x 10’ pool and wooden deck area.

Descending a few steps down from the kitchen area you will be in the living area, which faces out to the north, looking as far as you can see to the Atlantic Ocean, where during the wintertime you may spot breaching whales. The large built-in concrete couch covered in comfortable pillows flanked by Moroccan tea tables will create an area of relaxation and tranquility.

To the left of the living area and down a few more steps, lays the entertainment room, created by the same concrete couch facing the opposite direction, and featuring a large flat screen HDTV with DVD and Satellite decoder, also surround sound system and CD player. Davide and Cele have acquired over the years an extensive library of DVD & CD entertainment media, books and games.

To the right of the living area is the dining area, enclosed by a low wall, not to block the view, facing towards the sea. Adjoining is the swimming pool, 3 feet higher than the dining room floor, where a cascade of water flows through a channel into a trough in the dining room, creating a soothing sound of running water. A large dining table that can accommodate 12 people dominates the dining area.

The entire house is designed in natural earth tones with hardwood featuring as the dominant building material. Ethnic objects and art feature as the decorative element.

 

The services and activities that will be offered are many and varied. There will be the opportunity to spend your evening learning how to entertain and cook for your friends with Davide as your host and Chef/instructor. Cooking classes will be conducted around the framework and atmosphere of a traditional country house in Tuscany, where meals are prepared with your guests’ participation.

You may choose to participate in Yoga classes conducted by professional guest instructors - to lift your spirit and relax your mind. Personalized Spa treatments may be arranged with experienced and established facilities.

Wali Nikiti will be available with a minimum stay of 7 nights to groups of up to ten people. Each hut will accommodate two guests.

 

In addition Wali Nikiti will be available for film and TV shooting especially for gourmet show as the kitchen facility is designed with filming in mind.
